Pain / Inflammation / Fibromyalgia
These days, most over-the-counter topical pain relievers contain petroleum and chemicals created to be like the plants, but they cannot fully duplicate nature. My recipes follow the same percentages as two popular martial arts oils, but are just the plants, no man-made chemicals, and no fillers or ineffective additives. The first commercial pain relievers were made using a plant called Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria). Once scientists were able to isolate the active pain reliever and turn it into the chemical (acetylsalicylic acid), they created aspirin. (Interesting that the old botanical name for Meadowsweet was “Spiraea.” I’m pretty sure you can determine where the word “aspirin” might have come from just looking at that name!) Still a “wonder drug” even today, aspirin reduces pain and inflammation and that’s what my topical pain relievers do. Wintergreen plays a large role because it is nearly 100% methyl salicylates, which is why it is so good at relieving pain, inflammation and swelling. And did you know peppermint is an effective topical analgesic? But sometimes there are other issues behind the pain and inflammation, and these products address many of them topically.
Big Jim’s Cream #1 Product

This cream’s blend of plants and herbs does just about everything cortisone cream does without those unwanted side effects! A recipe I developed first for my son’s skin problem expanding upon an old English recipe for a healing diaper rash cream suitable for babies. The plants in this product stop pain and itch and quickly improve the appearance of psoriasis, eczema, irritating rashes, cracked feet, cold sores and even has been shown to help relieve pain, itch and soreness of shingles and hemorrhoids. Use for insect bites, bee and wasp stings (and resulting ache) and itchy rashes like poison ivy, as well as for healing and relieving pain of minor cuts and bruises. Customers tell me they have used Big Jim’s to prevent jock itch and soothe sore bottoms in both children and adults. Also good for chaffed skin and sore noses . Contains a therapeutic infusion of Comfrey leaf and root, Oregon grape root, Marshmallow root, and Calendula flowers, Rosehip seed (10% of the product), Grapeseed, Evening primrose and Wheat germ oils, Tea tree, Aloe, Carrot seed and Mint oils.
